Evening of 10-16: two freezes, the crash log, Dress Up 0.0.87 to 0.0.90
2026-10-16, 16:52 to 18:10 MDT, Claude, with Matthew (AFK from 17:22 for an hour). Written as he comes back.
The freezes, and the crash log
- The laptop froze at 16:33 and 16:47, both during headless-Chromium runs (the 12-pass 🧪 test; ticket 160's 42-case audit). The crash log (new, Matthew's ask) has every crash since 08-18: 33 of them.
- Found while making it: the kernel sees no battery (
Slot [BAT1] (battery absent)) on every boot back to 08-18, and twice today the hardware clock read 2023-01-01 at boot. The kernel never panics on a hang, so a freeze and a power cut look alike in the logs; the page says what would tell them apart (Matthew's to set). - Since 17:05 (Matthew's call), headless Chrome runs pinned to 4 of the 20 threads (
taskset -c 0-3 nice -n 10); the gate reads the same pinned (0.0.86: 10 of 10 at 59.3 to 60 both ways). About an hour of pinned browser work since: five gates, 🧪, every check below and the 586-picture archive: no crash.
Dress Up releases (each pushed, Pages green, the live page and version.json checked)
| Version | Commit | Ticket | What |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.0.87 | 431d897 | 164 | On a slow computer, while the friend moves, each place is drawn as still pictures cut where the friend goes in its drawing order (the black laptop's 🧪 on 0.0.86: the pond 30 fps as it is, 59 as a still picture). 🧪 has 14 passes: 9 the pictures, 10 the pictures as bitmaps (for the iPad), 11 both water parts off. The gate gained 🦆 the pond, still pictures. |
| 0.0.88 | 4d71449 | 147 | Doors that open: castle doors, archways, the gate and the house's door glow and X goes through; the friend walks up, a wooden door swings open, they step in and fade, and fade in beyond. The spin is for pictures and windows only. |
| 0.0.89 | 091f113 | 149 | First step of collisions: castle rooms' back and side walls (not the spiral stair's), the things one sits on solid, low ones cleared by a jump (short: under half the legs; high: under the legs). |
| 0.0.90 | 9958ca2 | 162 | N's pits: walking onto a trap room's pit falls in (arms up, a teeter, sinking below the rim), dropping into the dungeon its sign names and landing on bent knees; the ladder climbs back out. |
Today's pictures
- Ticket 171 closed: 2026/10/16 in dress-up-pictures (
13cf0a6), from 0.0.90: 349 distinct pictures, 0 page errors; the Dress Up pictures page offers the day. Pictures only, no music, as asked.
Waiting on Matthew
- Your 🧪 lines on 0.0.87 from the black laptop and the iPad (164): pass 9 is the shipped pictures (expect about 59 on the black laptop), pass 10 the bitmap version (the iPad's question).
- Try it: 147 doors, 149 walls and seats, 162 the pits (with N), 145 the imagination's ladders.
- Questions: 165 (may the test tools move into the public repo, and a workflow run on every push?), 166 (the canister on the IC mainnet, paid in cycles? who may write?), 167 (close as not reproduced?), and "ticket 163 into 3rd": 163 was closed, so 162 went third; was that the one?
Next
- 🌙 Tonight's long runs: 156 (#2635's CI), then 160's audit, last (pinned, batches of six cases, one run each).
- 149's next step when you say: tables, beds, trees and rocks solid (objects have a depth, not yet a footprint), and the flat rooms' walls.
- New checks in
~/du-shots/tools/:stillpic164.mjs+stillpic_diff.py,stillpic_depth.mjs,stillpic_switch.mjs,door147.mjs,collide149.mjs,pit162.mjs,probe.mjs(evaluate expressions in the page). - Servers: 8000 (the dashboard) and 8133 (Dress Up), as Matthew asked after the crash; no Hazel ports.
